Being a WWI collector, primarily medical theme; I lived in France for several years and  found many interesting WWI era pieces.
Up for auction is an original   WWI French  postcard showing a Red Cross dog angrily urinating on a German helmetGerman soldier.  The red cross dog is holding a French soldier's kepi and this was a very popular image of the red cross dog during the war. ( I even have  antique lead toy soldiers of a dog returning a soldier's hat).
This card was used by a soldier and was sent to  his brother. It appears that the soldier was in the 139th territorial in Blois". It was postmarked in 1915. ( its 115 years old!).
I will translate:
"Dear brother. I send you these 2 words to tell you I well received your card..... Your brother Guilbert Charles. 139eme
territorial in Blois.
This card is most likely during the first two years of the war.
This is the real thing and NOT a repro. Nice piece of WWI history..

I will probably send this on a small stiff piece of cardboard in a padded envelope... hopefully the post office will not consider this a package since they sometimes try to do that is an envelope is rigid.  When the post office feels that the "letter" is actually a "package" ... because it is 1/4 of an inch thick.. the cost jumps to
almost
4 bucks!! Was never like that just a few years ago!
For now, I will just say 4 bucks to ship and will  also try to see if I can safely fit in a letter and perhaps send for a couple dollars.... but  best not to do so... also if send as a package... then it is not only safer but tracked.  As a collector, I do not like the idea of sending 100 year old collectibles in an untracked flimsy envelope!!  I do combine shipping and usually  sending one card is the same shipping cost as sending, for example 4-5 cards.
